Todd and Blair

           Remember

"Every Little Bit"

Todd:  If you let me nod off you'd finally have me out of your life.

Blair:  You've always been a part of my life ever since you sat next to me at Rodis and somebody came in and played that stupid Louie Armstrong song.

Todd:  It was Nat King Cole!

Blair: It was Louie Armstrong!

Todd:  It was Nat King Cole!  How could you forget something like that?

Blair: What else do you remember?

Todd:  Every little bit!

Todd:  Wouldn't it be great if with a big eraser you could erase all the bad stuff?

Blair:  Well if I got rid of all the bad stuff...

Todd:  Well you wouldn't have any memories of me.

Blair:  If I got rid of all of the bad stuff, then all the good stuff wouldn't be as meaningful.

[Blair recalls that Todd won the most pathetic contest.]

Todd:  Is that a good memory or a bad memory?

Blair:  A good memory, because before I ran into you that night I thought I was all alone in the world and after that night... I didn't!

The First Meeting

Where it all began: Rodi's July 1994

(Blair sits alone at the bar drinking)

***FLASHBACK***

Max to Blair: "I'm not, I'm not saying this to hurt you. It's a fact! My...your part in my life it's over, it has to be over."

***END OF FLASHBACK***

Blair: I can't let you do that. I can't let you leave it like that. Max.

Man's Voice (Todd): Excuse me.

Blair: I can't.

Man's voice (Todd): Excuse me is somebody sitting here? Pardon me, but is someone sitting here or not?

Blair: No, go ahead. No one.

Man's voice (Todd): Gee, thanks.

Blair: No one at all.

(Juke Box starts playing "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole)

(Todd and Blair simultaneously turn around)

Todd: Hey, why don't you do everybody a favor and turn that garbage off?

Blair: Oh man, would you turn that off, please?

(They both turn back around and "notice" each other)

Blair: Sounds like someone got burned.

Todd: Fried.

(Blair laughs)

Todd: Listen to that junk, would ya? Somebody talking about how you should follow your heart. Nobody does, everybody's too worried about doing the right thing, making the right choice. A choice everybody else thinks they should make, not what they want to do.

Blair: And you, and you keep watching them make the wrong choice every time. They know it. You know, they know.

Todd: Right you can't stop them, it's all screwed up.

Blair: Yeah. I know this guy. Really beautiful. The love of his life comes along, a chance to start all over. She really loved him a lot. You know he would've gone with her too. Gone, gone away except...

Todd: See, except, there's always an except. Go ahead, what?

Blair: Except there was this accident. His wife, she was, she was hurt.

Todd: Bad?

Blair: Real bad. So, he'll just go back to his wife, if she'll take him back. But, not for love.

Todd: Oh, no, no, no. He's gotta go ahead do the right thing.

Blair: Outta guilt. That's all. He goes back to her outta guilt. When he really should...

Todd: Yeah, he should be right. He should be with his love, his true love, his real love; he should be with her.

Blair: He should be with me. He should be with me.

Todd: Alright, same thing's going on with me.

Blair: Really?

Todd: There's this chick I know, right? Only where is she? Who's she with? She's shacking up with some dumb looking, rich, preppy jerk...

(Blair laughs)

Todd: ...And Why? Because everybody says it's the right thing for her to do cause he's such a nice guy. Such a nice, nice, nice wimp. To hell with them, that's what I say, right? To hell with them.

(Todd accidentally knocks Blair's purse on the floor; Blair stands to retrieve purse)

Todd: Sorry, hey, hey, hey, sit down, I'll get it, alright?

Blair: It's okay, it's okay, I've already got it.

(Blair bends down to get purse and notices Todd's ankle monitor)

Todd: What's the matter, you stuck down there?

Blair: What...what is that on your, on your ankle?

Todd: I'm gonna get another drink. Can I buy you a drink? You want a drink?

Blair: That's one of those bracelet things so they can monitor where you are.

Todd (beating on the bar): Bartender!

Blair: What are you, some kind of convict or some...you're on parole, aren't you?

Todd: What are you looking at now?

Blair: Your scar. Oh GOD, oh man, you're Todd Manning. I read about you.

Todd: Oh yeah. You always believe what you read? Must be nice living in a world of newspapers, all your people in black and white.

Blair (opens purse to get money): I gotta get going.

Todd: Come on, come on. What's your hurry? Sit down, have a drink.

Blair: No, look I?ve just gotta get home, that's all.

Todd: Alright fine. Get out of here and you take your attitude with you. Who the hell are you anyway? You just got through telling me you were trying to steal some moron away from his wife. Only wait, let me get this straight. He wised up, he realized he didn?t want you around either. Why don't you just get on? Get out of here. Big surprise, huh? Susie home wrecker winds up alone.

Blair: Better off alone than with someone like you!

Todd: Do you wanna stay here and argue?

Blair: You...you stay away from me. You stay away from me, that's all I want! I don't know you. I don't know you.

Todd: What are you getting so excited about? 'I don't know you'? I don't know you either! Why don't you just stay away from me, huh? Far away. You and everybody else.

(Blair proceeds to Rodi's exit, while Todd takes the money Blair left on the bar for himself)

Rodi's: The Second Meeting

Rodi's July 1994 after their first meeting

(Todd sitting at the bar drinking. In walks Blair. She doesn't notice Todd sitting in the "shadows")

Rocky (Rodi's Bartender): What will it be, beautiful?

Blair: I don't know Rocky. I, uh, I'm staying over at the Waterside Inn and I've been out on a walk for about an hour, down along the river, across the park.

(Entire time Blair is talking to Rocky, Todd is checking her out)

Rocky: Long walk?

Blair: Yeah, um, I'll have a scotch and soda, please.

Rocky: You've got it, babe.

(Todd finishes his drink. He moves to the barstool next to Blair invading her "personal space")

Todd: Hey.

Blair: You.

Todd: Don't you know that it's dangerous for a woman to walk alone by the river after dark?

Blair: Thanks for the advice.

Todd: What would you wanna do that for anyway? You looking for some married jerk whose home you wanna wreck?

Blair (leans into Todd's personal space): And what are you looking for, huh?

Todd: Whatcha got? I live here. You wanna go upstairs?

Blair: Charming.

Todd: Now what are you looking at me like that for? That married jerk go back to his wife, leave you all by your lonesome?

Blair: Why you seem all outta sorts tonight, Mr. Manning. Now don't tell me that you're still mooning over that girl you told me about. The one that threw you over for that little preppy guy, hmm?

Todd: I hope I never see the two of them again as long as I live.

Blair: Well then I hope so, too.

Rocky: Hey, Manning. You said you were working nights this week? It's way after 11:00.

(Todd takes one last drink, hands Rocky money for the drink. Before he leaves he spits a piece of ice on the bar)

Rocky: What is a lady like you doing camped out on a barstool at 3:00 a.m.?

Blair: I like the crowd.

Rocky: Bull. You should be out with people, having conversations, few laughs, whatever. Who knows, you might even find a nice guy and go home with him.

Blair: You got somebody in mind for me, Rocky?

Rocky: As a matter of fact, you're looking at him.

(Blair gives a mild laugh)

Rocky: It's not that funny.

Blair: No, you don't understand, you are way too good for me.

Rocky: Let me be the judge of that. From what you said you seem to have that Holden guy out of your system. Why not give me a shot?

Blair: No, that's the problem with listening to me. See, I only tell half the truth. Max may be out of my life, but I don't think he will ever be out of my system.

Rocky: You know how I gave up cigarettes?

Blair: How?

Rocky (places a bowl of pistachios in front of Blair): Pistachios.

Blair: Pistachios.

Rocky: Mm hmm. Think of me as a pistachio.

Blair: Well thank you, Rocky. But I think Max is a habit that may take the rest of my life to break.

(Blair opens a pistachio and it is empty)

Blair: Great, typical. I pick an empty one.

(Blair is startled as a hand reaches in the pistachio bowl)

Blair: Hey, what...Todd.

Todd: What's the matter, Blair? Did I scare you?

(Apparently "last call" at the bar has been made and Todd is irritated)

Todd: I'll buy her one. Hell, I'll even buy you one.

Rocky: I told you Manning, I gave last call an hour ago. Now I'm closing in five. Sweet dreams.

Todd: Fine. You know what? From now on, I'm taking my business to the Palace Hotel.

Blair: They won't let you in.

Todd: Why not? They let you in.

Blair: You know, I don't even need this. If you came here to make my life miserable. Somebody got ahead of you, alright?

Todd: What's the matter, Blair? You still mooning over that married guy who went back to his wife? Don't you know? There's nothing more boring that unrequited love.

Blair (moves into Todd's "personal space"): Oh yeah, and you ought to know.

Todd (moves in even closer): Buzz off.

Blair (moves back): Yeah, buzz off. What are you doing back here, Todd?

Todd: I live upstairs, remember?

Blair: Yes, I remember, you told me that earlier. But I also remember that you left to go to work at the hospital.

Todd: I have a confession to make. Todd's been a very, very naughty boy

Blair: Whatcha do, Todd?

Todd: Alright, you promise not to tell?

Blair (moves into Todd's "personal space" ): Cross my heart and hope to die.

Todd (in return moves in ready to kiss Blair): I went to work with booze on my breath. They sent me home with a note from teacher.

Blair (moves back): Well that was really smart. I thought your pardon depended on your job working out at the hospital?

Todd: Yeah, well let me tell you something about this pardon, alright? It makes all the bleeding hearts feel good, but it doesn't change anything. Nobody changes. You?re born bad, you stay bad.

Blair: Come on, Todd, it doesn't have to be that way, you know that.

Todd: It is that way. People talk about change all the time, but nobody believes it. They give you a name. They call you evil, they call you bad, whatever and then you've got to live with it no matter what. No matter how lonely you get, nobody believes you can change. Even people that you care about, people that you know care about you. They still tell you get lost, stay out of my life.

Blair: And they mean so much to you.

Todd: And when you start to realize that you are going to live the rest of your life...like this, you know, alone, forever. Things start to build up inside of you. They build up until you feel like you're going to explode, you know. What am I telling you this for? Like, you're gonna understand.

Blair: Believe me, Todd. I know exactly how you feel.

Todd: No way, babe. You can't even begin to know how I feel. Nobody can.

The First Park Scene- "The Most Pathetic Contest"

Todd asked Rebecca to marry him and she turned him down. Later they run into to each other at the hospital. Rebecca yells at him that he's nothing but an animal, and Todd puts his fist through the wall, causing it to bleed. Todd later leaves the hospital. Blair runs into Tina at the park who informs her that Max and Luna are having a party to celebrate the renewal of their wedding vows. Blair is crushed by the news and sits down on a park bench, her head in her hands. Todd walks silently into the park and surprises Blair. This was T&B's fourth encounter and it leads to the start of the infamous "Most Pathetic Contest".

Todd: What's wrong?

Blair: Nothing, nothing at all. (she stands up and starts to leave the park)

Todd: Just trying to help, sorry to have bothered you. (he's angry)

Blair: (turning around) Look what do you expect Todd, you come creeping up on someone in the middle of the night.

Todd: I wasn't creeping! You're hanging out on a park bench at midnight, crying. Oh, but god forbid I come along- Todd, the rapist. I just might do you right here on the park bench. Run! Go on, get out of here before my animal insticts take over.

Blair: I'm sorry, of all the people I've run into tonight, you're the only person who's shown a little bit of concern. (she sits back down on the bench)

Todd: Does that mean I can sit down?

Blair: Yes, but I do have a can of mase in my purse just in case I'm wrong.

Todd: Yeah, well, I'll keep that in mind. So, tell Uncle Todd why all the tears?

Blair: Finally hit me like a ton of bricks. That it's over, utterly over. You know the man I told you about, that I was willing to kill myself for well, he went back to his wife. He made the safe choice.

Todd: That's rough, but I can top it. The women I love, she broke up with her safe choice and she still doesn't want anything to do with me. I had the ring out, everything, the whole deal. Totally turned me down.

Blair: Well, you win most pathetic newcomer.

Todd: I'd like to thank all the little people.

Blair: (She notices Todd's bandaged hand and looks concerned) Todd, what happened to your hand?

Todd: Unrequited love got the best of me.

Blair: You better go to the hospital that looks bad.

Todd: Been there, done that. I thought all of the bleeding had stopped. I leave a trail of blood wherever I go.

Todd: Wow, is it just me or is it really hot out here. (he takes off his jacket)

Blair: It's the air, there's a cloud right over us. I mean look you can't even see the moon anymore.

Todd: Are there clouds over everybody or just us?

Blair: For that (Todd grins widely at her), the loser of the most pathetic contest is going to buy the winner a soda over here at the deli, you wanna go?

Todd: Yeah, I guess that's why they call you Miss Congenialty. Huh? (they leave the park)

Todd: (Re-entering the park with sodas) I'm desperate? Look who's hanging out with Todd Manning.

Blair: I don't know what to say but for some reason I feel comfortable with you. Maybe it's because you're more rotten than I am.

Todd: Oh yeah, that's me I'm rotten. You look in the dictionary under "rotten" and there's a little picture of me. You should have heard the women I was talking about before. I thought she was going to call me "sweetheart", she called me "animal".

Blair: That hurts.

Todd: Yeah, if I had feelings but we both know I don't.

Blair: You're bad Todd, you are bad. I'm not going to take anything away from you on that. But you are sitting on a park bench with a women who systematically set out to destroy her aunt's life.

Todd: Did you?

Blair: No.

Todd: What's the big deal?

Blair: Wait, wait a minute, you know Asa Buchanan? Well, I was married to him and I pretended to be pregnant, then I faked a miscarriage. He had a heart attack and I withheld his medication. I stood there while he crawled and begged at my feet.

Todd: That's bad, I like that! That's real bad! (he's looks impressed)

Blair: Thank-you!

Todd: Yeah, you keep it up, you're going to wind up in the rotten hall of fame with me.

Blair: And um, where's that?

Todd: Right here, on a park bench, after midnight, alone. (they stare at each other intently) Um, I got to get home, wherever that is. (he gets up to leave)

Blair: Yeah, me too. (she gets up also) Todd- look I'm sorry about that girl you care about and your not so bad you know.

Todd: Yeah, I am. So are you. Night Blair.

Blair: Night.

They smile as they both turn to leave the park in separate directions but glance back at each other as they slowly leave.

My Deepest Appreciation To One Of The Staunchest T&Bers Ever, Aipar (Anne), for the Todd and Blair Transcript!

At OLTL, PP's input impacted more than simply the cliffhanger final weeks.  ABC and PP reached a decision to position certain characters for their own launch.       RC adjusting some, not all, of his ending vision to fulfill ABC and PP's agreement.

The changes are not about short-changing fans but giving their characters (pardon the pun) a longer life to live.      Everyone involved wants and needs this transition to succeed.       TSJ is one of a few areas RC and PP have not agreed.      The Tale of Two Todds was pitched and originally approved as a major mystery.       The mystery required both TSJ and RH to travel a very complex backstory.      Cancelation and massive rewrites gutted the mystery.      PP's memo contained disagreement over gutting the mystery arc. PP felt it was not the wisest of decisions from a marketing perspective.       PP appears focused on marketing stories vs ABC focuses more on marketing specific actors.

Heard TSJ was on PP's list.       Do not have any further information on TSJ.      Over recent years, ABC has valued it stars over its writers.       Good storytelling matters more to PP than ABC.       From a writers' perspective, PP are dream bosses.       PP are still assembling creative teams.       RH was always scheduled to go to LA in January. RC was aware he would need to plot around RH's break when he was hired.      PP's pitch was too short on specific details for some actors. This led a few to hesitate. Others are making known they are all in.      PP is still assembling creative teams and dealing with some union issues. The situation is still quite fluid.

Another insider here has more insights into how the individual negotiations are proceeding.   I only know FL appeared very interested and has a prior relationship already with the PP rep.       Natalie and Jessica appear integral in that 20-30 age grouping.       RC expressed disappointment he cannot move to PP.       That age group was mentioned in PP's memo as integral. Integral does not mean exclusive focus. ABC focused on teens to the detriment of building up their 20-30s. PP is reshuffling priories and 20-30s are now more important than teens.

Kim is a "reset" switch for Viki and Clint. She spurs Viki into reevaluating her feelings for Clint. Viki and Clint's holiday wedding storyboard appears intact.      John/Liam/Natalie's storyboard that I spoiled back in January and February remain largely intact, too. No real major changes (yet) on this storyboard.   Destiny's child board appears somewhat intact, too.

PP's placing greater value on storytelling over stars is very welcomed shift to writers.   At great debate at ABC for quite some time, do fans tune in for stars or good stories?    ABC firmly sided with stars. From a writers' perspective, this was a damaging strategy.  The bible was no longer driving the show.    The original Tale of Two Todds was a very good yarn. Then it was massively gutted and lost so much potential. PP appears to be trying to salvage some potential. This is a very positive sign of PP's commitment to an improved creative process.    Tomas' fate is being affected by PP's decision to re-insert pieces of the backstory and mystery arcs into September. In September, look for a key Irene exposition scene.

This scene is a last minute drop-in due to PP's influence. PP's influence at AMC, by necessity, was limited. At OLTL, ABC and PP are striving hard for a seamless transition.   There are many areas of agreement between RC and PP's vision.

PP's biggest objection appears focused on lost marketing and storytelling potential for carrying forward The Tale of Two Todds. Another area of disagreement appears over the teens. PP is the reverse, placing greater value on storytelling over star promotion.    PP felt strongly ABC did not make the wisest of marketing decisions with gutting the backstory and mystery. It's not a question of RH and/or TSJ for PP. It's a question of seeing great potential in the original storyboard.  From a writer's perspective, PP offers you the better chance of quality storytelling.    PP rec'd some big-time creative say and they were able to over-rule Agnes Nixon's wishes for AMC. At OLTL, PP is said to be behind halting Frons plans to oust FL. PP knows FL's work from RP and wanted her onboard.    PP aren't fans of BW or ME's work like Frons was and want recasts. PP is said to be also mulling over a Starr recast to age her out of the teen set. KM also not suiting their plans to age the Manning girls into young 20s. As for TSJ, he may get the last laugh on Frons after all.   PP appears to be pursuing him nearly as much as Frons chased RH. PP are not playing by Frons' old pet rules anymore at AMC either. They don't seem very interested in RB.    Frons pets may not all make it over to PP and his wishes don't mean squat anymore. The unions rose a bit of a bigger fuss than everyone expected. They don't want to set the precedent PP wanted and that's slowed down getting things signed and sealed.     Females - ES, KDP, FL, and MA top PP's list to sign. They may go after BU for their 20s set which surprised many. They want a Rachel and Jessica recast to complete their 30s female set.      Males - JVD is a lock being another with friends at PP. They don't seen as eager to sign the male cast. They badly want RH and chasing TSJ too. If John and Rex appear on PP I'd say they are recasts. I don't know what is up with TK though. SR will be coming over as he's worked for them before. Don't shoot the messenger but LP looks likely.      I heard PP wanted a 30s AA professional female and that's when Rachel's name and history was brought up to them. It's Natalie, Jessica and Rachel. Jessica is definitely being recast and they are given consideration to doing it before OLTL goes off in January.    RH is interested. I'd say RH is likely. They have two pilots coming up for USA. One of the creators of Damages is developing a 3rd legal pilot for them. PP has a lot of deals in the works they can hold out as carrots. Many soap and OLTL vets have done that show and the Damages producers are indeed working with PP.    These are good shows they make for primetime and huge opportunities for the soapers.  The union hold up isn't stopping PP from talking to actors anymore and they have put out some tailored offers. The hold up isn't stopping PP from drafting up all their plans. They sound very sure the union will give into what they're asking for.    LP was mentioned working with a twenty-something recast Danni. They could go with a recast Cole or James for an aged Starr I really don't know.      Bravo wants to sit back and watch the online version get up and running first then make their decision.   Bravo issued a non-denial. I know nothing about that side of things but you never know with Andy Cohen. They would have to really change GH to fit the Bravo brand IMO. That show is macho and dark and very little hospital or adventure anymore. Both OLTL and AMC have a more metro and soapy sensibility.    I heard Destiny and Jack are on target for recasting. I have heard nothing about any Fords. Eddie Alderson is probably going to Hollywood so Matthew might be recast.    I heard Cord and Tina's children have been suggested. They are going over OLTL history like a prospectus. Some new characters will be all new and others will have ties to the past. They're not going to repopulate all the families right away but they're not going to abandon them either. You can expect Clint, Natalie, Jessica sooner than later, and I am hearing Joey.    Matthew they want one way or the other. Shane is unclear. Bo and Nora are going to enter the regular rotation and be there for some stories and not others. Kevin I don't know about but I know there is some interest in him and in Zane. CJ and Sarah possible.

It's repopulating the Cramers I would be more worried about but I know they are interested in Dorian and in anchoring Blair's side of the Manning family with at least one other young relative.

I heard 13-week story cycles. That is all I know. Not sure if there is a break. Many past characters would "guest star" or have roles in certain stories as needed. Tina, Dorian, etc    What I have been told is Todd and Blair are a full couple and remarried when the show opens for business on PP. Whether he is alive, "dead" again or in town I do not know.  I am not sure on Viki and Clint being signed, sealed and delivered by the time OLTL hits PP. They were going to remarry before the end until the show's new lease on life. They still might do that but there was also some talk of extending the story with Viki, Clint, and Kimberly, as well as a 4th party, into the all new Llanview.    There was some struggle between RC's envisioned network ending vs PP's need for cliffhangers and transitioning of characters. PP won. PP's influence over OLTL story decisions has been under-reported. ABC and PP both agreed cliffhangers are of critical necessary for successful marketing and transition. TSJ is one of a few areas RC and PP have not agreed   The Tale of Two Todds was pitched and originally approved as a major mystery.     The mystery required both TSJ and RH to travel a very complex backstory.   Cancelation and massive rewrites gutted the mystery.    PP's memo contained disagreement over gutting the mystery arc. No real major changes (yet) on this storyboard.   Destiny's child board appears somewhat intact, too.    PP had some very definite ideas on the plans for The Tale of Two Todds. RC was caught between ABC and PP's differing priorities. PP appears to have more influence now and their input causing more last minute drop-in scenes and rewrites.

The original Destiny's Child storyboards were drawn up before PP's influence.  PP pitched to the entire cast, including RSW and HBS. PP's transition memo, however, did not mention their characters.
